Joseph Smith

Age 16

Chicago, Illinois

Sixteen. Chicago. Nighttime. A short profile.

He was someone’s son, perhaps a friend and a student. At age 16, he had a future. But in the newspaper, all he got was just 76 words.

We know that he was standing on a street 40 minutes after sunset. A Google map shows he could have seen the Barney’s Pizza restaurant on one corner, between a Baptist church and a funeral home. Where he last stood, there was a red stop sign.

Joseph Smith, 16, was shot in the 800 block of North Waller Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, on March 8, 2018.
