Neighborhood grocery store becomes crime scene

Only three months into 2018, nearly 20 homicides had already been reported in New Mexico’s biggest city. In March of that year, more than five occurred in the span of two weeks.

It seemed that from public parks to gas stations, nowhere was safe. Not even grocery store parking lots.

On March 19, 2018, police found an unresponsive Antonio Torres, 18, after he had been fatally shot outside of a Smith's grocery store.
