Tyreese Southern

Age 17

Nashville, Tennessee

“My humorous, sensitive and smart scholar”

Entering his senior year at Stratford High School, the 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound safety made the varsity football team. His athleticism was undoubtable, but off the field, his science teacher described him as “my humorous, sensitive, and smart scholar.”

One night, a 25-year-old man drove to the neighborhood park to sell marijuana. According to police, he approached the car with a friend, demanding marijuana and cash. The man reached for his gun.

Tyreese Southern, 17, was shot near Parkwood Park in Nashville, Tennessee on Dec. 18, 2018. He was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he died.
