Christopher Johnson

Age 18

Wilmington, California

Never returned from an evening walk

He lived in Wilmington, California, a city located near Long Beach, with small shops, local businesses, and an annual Labor Day parade with thousands of union workers. Last September, the theme was “Rise Up And Resist.”

Seven weeks later, he was walking outside on a warm evening. The neighborhood where he was has palm trees, metal gates and one-story houses; some have bars on the windows.

Christopher Johnson, 18, was shot at 6 p.m. at the corner of M Street and Ronan Avenue on Oct. 25, 2018. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, but he died.
