Jonathan David Freeman Jr.

Age 16

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Debated anything, from music to Deflategate

He’d walk into physics class just as it was about to begin, a smile on his face and red Gatorade in his hand. He always helped lighten the mood for his peers, despite his own AP-filled schedule at Allderdice High School.

This ambition extended far beyond the classroom; he programmed an app addressing media bias, read books with fervor and had a passion for sports broadcasting. When he was with Kingston Cox, a childhood friend, they debated anything — from Kendrick Lamar (brilliant) to the Deflategate controversy (a “witch hunt” he called it).

Jonathan “Jon Jon” David Freeman, Jr., 16, was fatally shot on Jan. 9, 2019, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
