Raphael McGail Butler-Grimmett

Age 17

Kansas City, Missouri

Boy Scout worker, aspiring chef, father

He always said “I love you,” and he had a goal of becoming a chef.

He was a good student who worked with the Boy Scouts of America: “He wanted to do something with his life,” his boss there said. He was looking for more jobs to support his family-to-be; his girlfriend was pregnant.

But a boxing match turned deadly for Raphael McGail Butler-Grimmett, 17, when his opponent drew a gun. He was shot and killed on Aug. 18, 2018, in Kansas City, Missouri, in front of his girlfriend, aunt and mother. Police performed CPR but were unable to save him.
