A sad reunion with Cuban family

He had a lot of potential, his former ESL teacher told the student publication. She called him brilliant and funny. “Students and teachers were always happier when he was in their class,” wrote a math teacher at Westwood High School, where he’d graduated from months earlier.

One night he was sitting with friends at the Paris Hookah Lounge when shots came from a passing vehicle.

Luis Alberto Rodriguez Tamayo, 18, of North Austin, Texas, was shot in the back of the head on Sept. 23, 2018. His family raised $12,000 to take his body to Cuba, where they live.
