Liam Paul Lee Mankins

Age 2

Baker City, Oregon

It was a gun left “unsecured”

He was 2 years old and had a dog, a black-and-white-and-brown puppy with big, black ears and spots of the same color. An old photo showed the dog curled protectively around him.

His family also had a gun, which was left unsecured on that fateful Sunday morning. It was loaded.

On Nov. 4, 2018, at 11:15 a.m., Liam Paul Lee Mankins, 2, accidentally shot himself in the head at his home in Baker City, Oregon. He was transferred to a trauma center, and died there at 1:43 p.m.
