Kyrie L. Johnson

Age 1

Buffalo, New York

He was only 17 months old

It was a warm summer evening shortly before Independence Day when his family gathered in the quiet Fruit Belt neighborhood in Buffalo, New York.

It was his grandmother’s 54th birthday. He and his cousins spent most of the day blowing bubbles, playing with squirt guns and eating cake. Seven days later, white balloons would be released, floating up to the blue sky to celebrate a short life.

On July 2, 2018, 17-month-old Kyrie L. Johnson was shot dead on the front porch of his home. His grandmother and father were also shot. The father survived.
