Justin Foss Jr.

Age 4

Augusta, Georgia

His mother begged him to breathe

In the photo, he wears a gray T-Rex t-shirt and bright yellow shorts that complement his ginger hair. He stands on the grass with a hint of a smile on his face.

In a blink of an eye, an accident transforms into a nightmare. “You’ve got to fight to breathe,” his mother desperately urged. “Breathe for daddy. Daddy’s coming.”

Justin Foss Jr., 4, shot himself in the head after finding his father’s Smith & Wesson handgun under a couch. He died at the Augusta University Medical Center an hour after the police arrived at his home on Skinner Mill Road in Augusta, Georgia, on July 7, 2018.
