Ezekiel James Griego

Age 18

La Puente, California

Graduated high school, had promising future

He stood tall, grinning on graduation day with red, blue and violet leis adorning his neck like victory laurels. His mother beamed next to him, her pride in his accomplishment evident.

His friends described him as fun, unforgettable and vibrant. He was kind in his classes, and his teachers were more than willing to vouch for his thoughtful disposition. Some would say it was instilled in him by his mother, who was a beloved educator and helpful friend.

Ezekiel James Griego, 18, and his mother were killed in La Puente, California, after being shot by his mother’s brother who then turned the gun on himself.
