DrayQuan Jaquell Jones

Age 16

Flint, Michigan

Learning was an escape for teen

He would run into Midway Supermarket every other morning to grab a snack, charming the storekeepers before heading to school.

Known as much for his intelligence as he was for his kind demeanor, he reveled in earning good grades and getting to the bottom of a math problem. Teachers described his bright smile, how hard he worked, and how much he enjoyed psychology, poetry and math. Friends remembered him as quiet, funny, sweet, clever, and strong.

DrayQuan Jaquell Jones, 16, a student at WAY Academy of Flint, Michigan, was fatally shot in the chest on March 30, 2018, after a gunfight broke out between two rival groups.
