Deshaun Antwan Owens

Age 18

Hartsville, South Carolina

Embodied through love, taken too soon

His charm was one of his key features. When he was younger and one of his teachers would correct him at Hartsville Middle School, he’d smile wide and say, “C’mon now Mrs. James,” trying to sweet talk her.

He always showed respect and protection towards the adults in his life, most notably his teachers, parents and grandparents. They wanted nothing more than to help him through life, too, but one Wednesday night he was left defenseless.

Deshaun Antwan Owens, 18, was shot and killed on Bell Avenue in Hartsville, South Carolina, on Sept. 19, 2019.
