Daniel E. Bowden

Age 17

Olathe, Kansas

A tender smile, a sudden death

His photo shows a boy with brown hair, a tender smile and black studs in both ears.

After class, he would sometimes stay behind and question his teacher about what he’d learned. He was a “kind-hearted young man who showed respect [and] tolerance to all," according to one of his teachers. He brought joy to all those around him.

A brawl between two groups escalated on a Friday night in the parking lot next to a popular Mexican restaurant in Olathe, Kansas. A gun emerged; the 17-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital. Daniel E. Bowden died there on June 15, 2018.
