Azalya Anderson

Age 3

Sacramento, California

Fourth birthday was to be unicorn-themed

She was planning to celebrate her upcoming fourth birthday with a unicorn-themed birthday party. Ideally, there would be a lot of pink and purple, her favorite colors.

“I had a connection with her,” said her older brother. “She's so goofy just like me.”

On a Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. in Sacramento, California, Azalya Anderson, 3, was preparing for bed and showing some of her artwork to her stepfather when bullets ripped through the wall and critically wounded her. After five days in the UC Davis Medical Center, Azalya was pronounced dead after she was taken off life support on Sept. 17, 2018.
