Aiden Martin

Age 3

Walterboro, South Carolina

Cinnamon twists. Play-Doh. Accident. Bloody refrigerator.

He and his older brother, Akai, asked their mother to spend the night in their father’s trailer. Once there, he “wandered around,” watching adults drink and gamble, eating first his own cinnamon twist, then his brother’s.

Beside the couch, Play-Doh. On the table, a Taco Bell bag. Somewhere within reach, a gun.

Aiden Martin, 3, accidentally shot and killed himself on May 4, 2018, in Walterboro, South Carolina. “He will be forever 3 years old,” his mother said.
