Cap and gown for sale, unworn

A senior at Legacy High School, she was excited for milestones ahead. She was learning how to parallel park for her driver’s test retake. She had just ordered her cap and gown for graduation, which her relatives were planning to attend. She was browsing prom dresses and writing applications for college, where she hoped to study nursing like her mother.

She was the spitting image of her mom. “You could say we were best friends,” her mom said. “She was my everything, she was my rib.”

Indya Emon Willis, 17, was shot by her boyfriend in North Las Vegas, Nevada on Nov. 21, 2018, the day before Thanksgiving.
