Gala Winona Zuehlke

Age 17

Edmonds, Washington

Take the bullets out, she said

She wanted to be a teacher. The 17-year-old was in a full-time online learning program at Edmonds-Woodway High School and planned to attend Skagit Valley College in the fall. Though she had lived in Washington state since she was 4 years old, she called herself “a Chicago girl at heart.”

One day, a 16-year-old boy came over to her apartment to show off a friend’s  .44-caliber revolver. He pointed it at her. Take the bullets out, she told him.

Gala Winona Zuehlke was shot in the face and killed in her apartment in Edmonds, Washington, on Nov. 30, 2018.
