DeVaughn Lorenz Perkins

Age 18

Menifee, California

Gone, but remembered by family forever

He was intelligent, an inspiration to many. A Cal State Dominguez Hills student, he cared deeply about friends and family.

The 18-year-old scholar was passionate about school, skipping a grade at Murrieta Mesa High School to pursue a business major. He was “the only one who truly believed in me,” said his older brother, Rodrick Futrell.

After he was shot in the neck, outside a house party in Menifee, California, DeVaughn Lorenz Perkins called Rodrick. “I’m scared,” Perkins said. “I don’t want to go.” Police officers arrived but couldn’t save him. Perkins died on May 26, 2018.
