Yorry Timley

Age 16

Painesville, Ohio

He couldn’t outrun the gun violence

The Harvey High School athlete ran a 400 meter dash in a swift 51.77 seconds as a freshman, his personal best.

While he excelled on the track, the soccer field and the dance floor, what friends and family appreciated most about “Yodi” was “the joyful aura” that followed him everywhere.

On Oct. 19, 2018, Yorry Timley, 16, was shot and killed, allegedly over a video game, at the Gingerbread Apartments in Painesville, Ohio. At a vigil, his mother cried out: “Please, put the guns down. Pick up a book. Be somebody, because my son’s dreams will never be fulfilled. Yorry, mommy loves you.”
