Getting an education in Yajaira’s honor

The annual pre-game rivalry between Rider High School and Wichita Falls High School could get serious. Anything from paintball attacks to animal killings and arson might play a role. In 2018, the town put competition aside in the Wichita Falls High School senior’s honor.

She played on the Lady Coyotes soccer team. She was already accepted to Vernon College. She wanted to be a nurse.

On Nov. 3, 2018, Yajaira Garcia, 17, was shot in Wichita Falls, Texas, on her way to taking the SATs. A moment of silence was held at Memorial Stadium during one of the biggest football days of the year to celebrate Yajaira.
