His maroon jersey darted across the football field, diving into the center of the play, a white number 6 slipping in and out of fans’ sight. He was also a wrestler, representing the Hammond High School Golden Bears with pride during senior year.

He was a caring older brother. His mom called him “imperfectly perfect,” and always in the mood to have a fun time.

William “Will” Harold Riley Jr., 18, was shot in his car at 7:30 p.m. in Laurel, Maryland, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Thirty-one days later, his family accepted his high school diploma at graduation.
