William Jacaree Edwards

Age 16

Birmingham, Alabama

Turned in his football jersey forever

The captain of Woodlawn High School's football team couldn't play in Friday night's game due to a family emergency. As he handed his game jersey to his coach, he told him that he loved him.

His coach and mother called him a fun guy who would grow into a great man with real talent. Scouts who saw him play considered him for NCAA Division I colleges.

On that same Friday, September 1, 2018, junior William Jacaree Edwards, 16, had just finished playing the video game Madden when he was shot through a window of his Birmingham, Alabama bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
