His jersey was No. 70; at six feet one inch tall and weighing 285 pounds, he was “a key component of the offensive line” on his varsity football team. He was a senior at North Charleston High School in South Carolina.
After they found him, police chief Reggie Burgess went out with a sign reading “Stop the Violence.” He, too, had played football in north Charleston. “I tossed and turned this whole weekend,” he said.
They found Vaughn James McFadden, 18, on the railroad tracks on March 2. One of the two suspects was his friend.
