Sequoyah Callahan Gavin

Age 18

Hemet, California

Always part of a bigger family

He was always a part of a bigger family, whether it was the Lilac School that he attended, the Valley Center High School football team he played for or the Jaguars rugby squad.

His main devotion was to his Native American tribe, the Soboba Band. Within his tribe he was called “Coy.” After his funeral, his friends and family held a talking stick, a ceremony when people listen closely to each other to understand the truth.

On July 13, 2018, Sequoyah Callahan Gavin, 18, was shot in the head and killed in the Stoney Mountain Ranch neighborhood of northwest Hemet, California.
