“Chucko” took his last jump shot

A short, talkative boy, he never let his height keep him from a pickup game of basketball.

“Hey favorite teacher!” Sonya Lawson remembers his frequent call down the halls of Estill High. She began teaching him in eighth grade and the two developed a special bond, said Lawson, who cherishes the “funny, sometimes aggravating, but mostly sweet” moments in their relationship.

Early Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, as families were leaving church, Samquan Hakeem Frazier, 17, was found shot in the torso on rural Pineland Road in Varnville, South Carolina. He was taken to Hampton Regional Medical Center, where he died from his wounds.
