Quasier Burley

Age 17

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

He played other neighborhoods for peace

He was 17 years old, and basketball was his world. “We took [the team] around the city. We played other neighborhoods for peace,” said coach and community organizer Terry Starks. Younger boys in his community looked up to him.

On Aug. 1, 2018, he and a friend were walking past the Cambria Recreation Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Earlier that day, he had gotten into an argument over a basketball game.

Quasier Burley was shot in the chest and the arm. He ran into the rec center, collapsing at an administrator’s feet. He died at the hospital a short while later.
