Everyone he crossed paths with loved him. He was described as a “true friend” with a “kind soul.”
At 17 years old, he was set to play on the soccer team at San Joaquin Memorial High School. "He's every coach's dream," said his varsity soccer coach. “He works hard, willing to do whatever it takes.”
Just before midnight on June 24, 2018, Nick Steven Kauls was shot in the head after he and his friend ran from strangers who demanded their belongings. He was rushed to the hospital but died four days later.
