Michael Shaheed McLaughlin

Age 17

Atlantic City, New Jersey

Strong athlete with a “soft heart”

He always had to outdress everyone. His “soft heart” balanced his “strong presence,” family members said.

“My son was just a lovable person, good-hearted,” Michael McLaughlin said. He was approaching his senior year of high school. He led his South Jersey football and basketball teams to win championship games throughout his short career.

On Aug. 9, 2018, Michael Shaheed McLaughlin, 17, was gunned down at 1 p.m. at the Carolina Village apartments in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, where he died later that afternoon.
