Never made it to the NBA

Sports – and the style that went with them – were part of his identity.

In a photograph, he poses with two friends, wearing bright red basketball shoes. In a different photo, he wears a white sweatband on his forehead, displaying his athleticism and dedication to sports. One of his friends called him her “favorite NBA player.”

Marqueius Nay'Joseph Dushawn Gray, 12, was accidentally shot in the chest and killed on Nov. 12, 2018, in Decatur, Illinois. A family friend had been playing with the gun when it discharged.
