Kianna Rowe

Age 18

Detroit, Michigan

She had big college basketball dreams

In the photo that accompanies an article about her East Detroit High School’s girls basketball team, she stares at the hoop, midair, preparing to make a play over the defender’s outstretched arms.

Nicknamed “Keke,” she planned to continue playing basketball in college as a shooting guard. Her coach said, “the love she had for her team, friends, and family really helped set the tone for the atmosphere we wanted in our program.”

On Nov. 28, 2018, Kianna Rowe, 18, was shot in the head and killed on Dobel Street on Detroit’s east side. Her 20-year-old boyfriend is the primary suspect in her murder.
