Hyattsville, Maryland

Star athlete with a bright future

He was versatile: As captain of the traveling football team, he played nearly every position, including quarterback and running back. A rising junior, he had a bright future.

“Just the leadership that he had, the overall presence that he had,” his former coach said, “when he spoke, people listened.”

Kevin Wilson Jr., 16, was shot several times in a parking lot behind an apartment building in Hyattsville, Maryland, on Aug. 6, 2018. As of Sept. 6, one of three suspects had been found and charged with murder. But police said they still had “not yet determined” why he was killed.
