Kenneth Louis Lockett Veley

Age 16

Toledo, Ohio

Father’s determination couldn’t be son’s salvation

A traveler’s heart and a penchant for athletics propelled him on a 69-mile bike trip from his hometown to Sandusky, Ohio. He worked out at Glass City, the boxing gym nearby.

His mother affectionately called him and his friends the “Fat Albert Crew,” referencing their inseparability and the way they would ransack her kitchen. He was crazy about his sister.

Gunshots took the life of Kenneth Louis Lockett Veley, 16, on a Toledo, Ohio, driveway on June 11, 2018. Four years earlier, Kenneth’s father, Charles, had biked to Los Angeles to advocate for ending gun violence in honor of a man his other son had killed.
