Kemon Battle

Age 12

Portsmouth, Virginia

He loved sports and strawberry Pop-Tarts

He was 12 years old and loved football, basketball, pizza rolls, strawberry Pop-Tarts and Fortnite. His friend was 14 and knew his cousin. “They hung together,” that cousin said. “Lived in the same neighborhood.”

Another friend wrote a song for him afterward. The lyrics, delivered with tears: “The world took a turn for the worst. My best friend you’re in God’s hands now. You’re in a way better place you deserve.”

Kemon Battle was shot, allegedly by his 14-year-old friend, in Portsmouth, Virgina, on Dec. 21, 2018. He died the next day, and the friend was charged with voluntary manslaughter.
