Kaileb Chance Ellison

Age 18

Hiram, Georgia

Faithful, appreciative, looking to the future

His faith was central to his life. As a 16-year-old, he got a tattoo of a cross with “John 3:16.” written on it.

In a touching rap ode to his mother on Soundcloud, he recalled the financial woes of his childhood, saying, “I only had you and a basketball.” He rejoiced in the family’s newfound fortune and expressed hope for the future.

On Feb. 2, 2019, in Hiram, Georgia, Kaileb Chance Ellison, 18, was trying to help a 15-year-old escape gang affiliation when the boy shot him, according to his aunt. He died five days later at Kennestone Hospital. He donated his organs.
