Football player loses life alongside friend

A teen in a black T-shirt and red shorts dashed across the field with a football in his hand, all while deftly maneuvering through several tacklers. Even after the other players toppled over him, he smiled playfully.

He was part of the Socially Conscientious Men youth football team three summers ago in Kansas City, Missouri, a program that “aims to help mentor teens through sports.” His mother said he “was a beast when it came to football.”

Jeremiah Taylor Stewart, 16, attended Gillis School. He and a friend were shot the evening of June 25, 2018. Both died at Truman Medical Center.
