J2 Speedy: “Right there with us”

His junior year at Mt. Juliet High School began, like many Septembers before, with football. As the end of the season approached, he prepared for a game against the high school he’d transferred from.

He didn’t get to play. Instead, students in the stands wore red and signed a banner that day in the cafeteria to honor his memory. “He was always right there with us,” a friend said at the vigil.

JayShawn “J2 Speedy” Taylor, 16, was fatally shot in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, on Nov. 15, 2018, two weeks before his birthday.
