Father, like son, killed by gun

After the death of his father and two cousins due to gun violence, he was the one to comfort his mother and encourage her to stay strong.

Friends described him as her “rock.” He dreamed of one day moving out of southeast Washington, D.C., and taking his mom with him. "He always would say, 'It's going to be better days. Whatever we're going through, we're going to get through this,’” his mother Kineeca Wheeler told the local news.

Jaylyn Wheeler, 15, attended Ballou High School in the District. He was shot and killed outside an elementary school on May 16, 2018.
