Cancer survivor treasured family, reading, football

He battled cancer, B-cell lymphoma, from the time he was 3 years old. He was finally in remission. Given the opportunity to live, he did so for his family, which was his main priority.

He also lived for the small moments, like checking out books from the Cedar Grove Library, playing football and having his wish for an iPhone fulfilled by his grandmother.

Jay Edward Diaz, 15, lived until his stepfather accidentally shot him while unloading a malfunctioning gun on Feb. 20, 2018, on Dale Road in El Paso, Texas.
