Ja’Von Anderson Crump

Age 17

Maple Heights, Ohio

He taught himself to play piano

“Everybody loved him,” his grandmother said. “Every time he walked in the house, he gave you a hug.” Neighborhood moms would send their kids over to play with him because he was so sweet and well-behaved.

He loved music. With hands at a keyboard and eyes on a computer, he taught himself piano. He played trumpet at the Cleveland School of the Arts and drummed in his room.

Ja’Von Anderson Crump, 17, was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Jan. 18, 2019, as he answered the door at his home in Maple Heights, Ohio. Police said he was “innocently gunned down.”
