Jaleel Shaeed Yates

Age 18

Richmond, Virginia

Made the team. Never did play.

It was a Facebook post by the basketball team he never played for that showed what was lost.

He had “made the team last year but was unable to continue to play with us,” according to the post by CVA Elite. No reason was given. The student from Huguenot High School was remembered as “quiet, polite and respectful.” Later, Huguenot gave him an honorary diploma; his mother fought for it.

Jaleel Shaeed Yates, 18, was killed in what police called a drive-by shooting in Richmond, Virginia, on March 1, 2018.
