Jacob Laurence Holland

Age 17

Smithville, Missouri

Choir’s harmony isn’t right without him

His mother, mid-laugh, burrowed her head into his face as he leaned back with playful disgust. “You couldn’t tell, but 15 minutes prior he hit me dead in the eye with a stocking,” she said.

A talented vocalist, he was one of 11 students at his high school selected to sing in the Northwest Missouri All-District Choir. A childhood spent in Alaska led to his true passion: the outdoors. He was part of the Future Farmers of America and loved to hunt, fish and kayak.

Jacob Laurence Holland, 17, was killed on Jan. 25, 2019, in Smithville, Missouri, after the gun he was holding at a friend’s house discharged.
