Ivan Johnson Rinne

Age 16

Mass City, Michigan

They were going to go hunting

He was preparing to go hunting with two friends on the second morning of the 2018 deer hunting season. In Michigan, there is no minimum hunting age and children of all ages can hunt at their parents’ discretion with supervision and a license.

An adventurous boy, he enjoyed being outdoors –– skiing and mechanical work were among his favorite pastimes. “A strong handshake, a confident walk, and enormous, tight hugs are common memories,” reads an online testimonial.

Ivan Johnson Rinne, 16, was shot in Mass City, Michigan, on Nov. 16, 2018, when his friend’s rifle unexpectedly fired.
