A running back, leaping over obstacles
He played quarterback and running back for the football team at Haltom High School.
In one game, football in hand, he swerved away from the center of the field. He flew past the 50 yard line despite defenders swarming around him, trying to drag him down. Still fighting, he lept over tackles and wove in and out of their swooping arms.
Off the field, he ran into trouble. On June 5, 2018, Ishmeal Smithson, 18, and two others attempted a robbery in Irving, Texas. He was shot and killed as he was running away.
