Summer stroll brought to a halt

The sun beat down on the sidewalks of South Dallas, on one of those characteristically torrid summer days in Texas. An avid dancer who’d attended Roosevelt High, he’d been taking a walk on Humphrey Drive with two acquaintances.

Around 4 p.m., a white Nissan Altima pulled up alongside the group. The driver rolled down the window, asking him who he was. A witness recalled the driver telling a passenger to “shoot him.”

On June 9, 2018, police found Davieuntay Green, 18, lying on the street with a bullet in his back. After being transported to Baylor University Medical Center, he died.
