A stormy night drowns out gunfire
His nickname was “Dee.” A red bandana was sometimes tied around his head, and he often sported a white Nike jacket zipped all the way up. He was going to be on the South Side High School football team in the fall.
Rain had fallen steadily all day before it happened. Crime watch signs lined the streets of his neighborhood. With the weather so dark and stormy, the sounds of gunshots were lost in the noise.
Darius Keshun Vaughn, 16, was rushed to the hospital on Feb. 17, 2018, after being shot by an escapee from the Department of Children’s Services in Raintree Cove, Jackson, Tennessee.
