Daquavoan Lavar Brown

Age 17

Charlotte, North Carolina

To know him, to love him

His dreadlocks were neatly parted, except for one over his face.

They called him Quavo, perhaps after the rapper. A friend wrote, “to know Quavo was to love Quavo.” He played basketball and was two months into being 17.

On Oct. 10, 2018Daquavoan Lavar Brown was shot at a Motel 6 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Charlotte-Mecklenberg medical examiner’s office ruled the shooting accidental; a teen “friend or acquaintance” is believed to have shot him. At a Nov. 3 march against gun violence, his mother said: “End the violence, put the guns down.”
