Aiden Michael Kramer

Age 9

Burlington, Kentucky

A tree grows in his place

Summer break was just a couple months away. He was in fourth grade, but grown-ups always said he seemed older.

He had recently been reunited with his mother, a recovering addict. She came to all of his soccer games. “This is my mom,” he’d tell his friends with pride when they played at their “hangout,” the creek on Oak Ridge Drive. They would later plant a tree for him there.

Aiden Michael Kramer, 9, and his mother were found dead in their apartment on Peoples Lane in Burlington, Kentucky, on March 21, 2018. They’d been shot repeatedly with a .22-caliber gun. His mother’s ex-boyfriend was later charged.
