Pensacola, Florida

Surfer won’t see the beach again

He was a surfer; in his tribute movie, wide-open seascapes frame photos of him carrying a surfboard, playing soccer, hugging friends.

People loved him before and after. There were 33 family members at his memorial, and “more than 50” came to paint a mural in his honor. “His name is on that parking lot … his name is on that concrete,” his father said. “Anywhere we could put paint, his name is there.”

On June 27, 2018, Abel Elijah Kane, 18, was fatally shot multiple times at an apartment complex in Pensacola, Florida. His friend had needed a ride, so he’d gone there.
