Marlon Dupree Sanders

Age 18

Hot Springs, Arkansas

His words came back to him

Tall and fit, he loved hip-hop and clowning around. But his Facebook page also showed what he didn’t like: money, for how it created “temporary friends.”

He felt unsafe. He didn’t trust people. He liked to party. He thought wisdom was the key to success. Sometimes he had hope. A repost on Feb. 17, 2018, read simply: “No matter where life takes me, find me with a smile.”

On March 7, 2018, Marlon Dupree Sanders, 18, was shot outside a McDonald's restaurant in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He died from his injuries the next morning.
